With businesses like Mediabiz and Starlings, Karine Martine is one of the most active Quebec film producers on a global scale. She is also one of the more low key ones too. That is set to change once her work on large scale project premieres May 31: I’m talking about the Rocketman film, which is based on singer Sir Elton John’s life. The Paramount production is one of the most buzzworthy films of 2019.
If she’s looking a bit familiar, it might be because she shares a resemblance to my husband, Iohann Martin. Yes! Karine is my lovely sister-in-law.
I manage to get a hold of this lawyer and producer in between two meetings to talk about the screenplay Rocketman, which she fell for nearly 7 years ago. We took the time to discuss her numerous business meetings, her secret negotiating tips and managing the family. Karine is a mother of three proud children: Samuel who is 16, Nicolas who is 13, and seven-year-old Clara.

Last week, Karine Martin and partner Jean-François Doray attended the premiere of the film at Cannes where Rocketman received a fantastic standing ovation. Actor Taron Egerton, who plays the singer was visibly moved while walking the red carpet with Elton. A beautiful moment was even captured on camera.

A few hours later, critics everywhere were raving. The film earned a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes! Consensus? It’s going to take a long time (going to be a long, long time) before another film captures the highs and lows of the life of an artist the way Rocketman has.
Rocketman will be premiere in London today, before it’s in theatres May 31. Plan out your Friday night because even if it’s been a long, long time since you’ve been to the movies, this is the one to watch!
